Heather North was born in Doncaster and began playing the flute at the age of 7. After completing her G.C.S.E’s at South Axholme Community School, Miss North went on to study for her A-levels at Chethams School of Music where she studied with Rachel Forgrieves.

After finishing her studies at Chets, Heather went on to gain her Bachelor of Music Degree with Honours at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where she studied with Alison Mitchell. In her final year at the RSAMD, Heather was a semi-finalist in the Rural Lions International Competition, and she was also successful in gaining a place on the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Apprenticeship Scheme. Whilst studying at the Scottish Academy, Heather was involved with various chamber ensembles and orchestral projects; including performances under the baton of conductors such as Ilan Volkov, Gary Walker and Lutz Koehler. Heather is currently a member of several chamber groups and has participated in the masterclasses of Michael Cox, Paul Edmund-Davies, Phillipa Davies, Wissam Boustany, Peter Lloyd, Ian Clarke and Goran Markusson.

Heather has recently finished her Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied with Michael Cox and Clare Southworth. She was very active in the orchestral programme at the Royal Academy of Music, having recently had the privilege of playing principal flute in the London Symphony Orchestra side by side scheme, as well as with the London Sinfonietta in a similar scheme. While at the Academy, Heather was highly commended in the J & J Brough Flute Prize. Another highlight of her time at the Academy involved playing Principal Flute in the Concert Orchestra with Sir Colin Davis.
