Isobel White began learning the harp at the age of eight after having learnt the piano for four years. Her first harp teacher was Janet Bennett in Newcastle; but after six years, she began a weekly commute between Durham and Manchester for private lessons with Welsh harpist Eira Lynn Jones. Isobel attended the Junior Royal Northern College of Music before entering into Chetham’s School of Music for sixth form. In 2002, Isobel became principal harp of the National Youth Orchestra and in the following year was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. After her first year, she was elected as the student union president and then returned to the harp department under the tutelage of Karen Vaughan, graduating in June 2008. Isobel has a passion for performing and is no stranger to Winchester; having performed Gabriel Pierné’s Concertstück with Winchester Chamber Orchestra in 2007 and then in the following year playing a lunchtime recital as part of the Winchester Festival. |
